History
Shriver
Construction Company actually started in the construction
business in 1955 as an outgrowth of a successful feed and
fertilizer business known as Shriver-Van Horn Company, a
partnership between Meredith Shriver and his long time friend
Del Van Horn. Meredith purchased the construction operations in
the late 1950's and began doing business as
Shriver Engineering Company.
The business name was changed to its present form of
Shriver Construction Company in 1966.
Meredith Shriver served as
President of the company that he founded until 1996, when he was succeeded by his wife, Kathryn
J. Shriver. In
August of 2004, Mrs. Shriver sold the company to her son-in-law,
Sam Harding, thus keeping the company in the family for another
generation.
Following
the sale, the company moved its headquarters for the first time
in its history to 1403 North Elm Street
in
Jefferson,
Iowa.
The company still maintains warehousing and equipment
storage at its former location at
512
West McKinley Street.
The new office building offers excellent highway
visibility as well as more efficient and well planned space.
Currently,
the company concentrates most of its work in Central and
Western
Iowa
.
Shriver Construction is primarily organized into two main
divisions, one concentrating on conventional construction and
the other pursuing pre-engineered building construction.
Over the years, the focus of the company has continued to
be on commercial, industrial, and institutional construction.
In
particular, the company is extremely proud of its long-standing
association with Varco-Pruden Buildings, a worldwide leader in
the manufacture of pre-engineered buildings.
With over 40 years of continuous association, Shriver
Construction Company is the oldest Builder for VP Buildings in
the world.
