Karla Janning

Karla came to the company in May of 1996 as an Estimator / Project Manager, a position she held until November of 2006 when she was promoted to General Manager.  She is responsible for managing all of the day to day operations of the company.  Her duties include managing several of the company’s projects that are assigned to her each year.  In that capacity, she is responsible for coordination with the project architect and owner’s representative as well as coordination with the subcontractors and Shriver Construction’s project superintendent.  She is responsible for all scheduling in addition to maintaining the budget for the projects that are assigned to her.  Karla also assists in the preparation of bids for the vast majority of the company’s work.  She helps complete the necessary material takeoffs, labor estimates, and summarizes the completed estimates for review as well as helps evaluate and screen bids from potential subcontractors and suppliers.

Originally a native of Harlan, Karla graduated from Adel-DeSoto High School in 1983.  She spent three years at Iowa State University pursuing a degree in Interior Design.  In 1991, she was awarded an Architectural Drafting Diploma from Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny and followed that with an AA degree from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City in 1992.  Prior to joining Shriver Construction, Karla gained considerable experience in both project management and design while working for both contractors and suppliers.

On the personal side, Karla spends a great deal of her time keeping up with her son Casey (18) and his many activities.  On August 30, 2003 , she married Rick Janning and they are currently enjoying their new life together.  She serves as an Assistant 4-H Leader and is a member of the United Methodist Church in Glidden.  In her leisure time, Karla enjoys horseback riding, quilting, playing the piano, and spending time with her dog, Sadie.
